FAQs
Can we set up on surfaces other than grass?
Yes, we can. We bring tarpaulins with us to use when we are setting up on surfaces other than grass.
How much room do we need?
To set up a 1 gazebo we need at least 3m x 3m with nothing encroaching on the area (look out for your house eaves, tree branches, washing lines, big plant pots etc.). If we don’t need to put up the gazebos, the size and shape of our enclosures are quite flexible. Because they are made up of small panels, we can adjust the shape to fit most areas. Usually, we take up as much room as you can give us!
Do we bring our own gazebo?
Yes, we do, but if you want to put one up for us, that is more than welcome!
Do you have hand sanitizer?
Yes, we do.
Can we hold the animals?
At birthday parties’ children must be seated on chairs to hold the small animals. The guinea pigs and baby rabbits sit in small containers. The containers stop them getting too hot or too squished and stop them peeing or pooping on you! Chicks will be wrapped in little towels to stop them being too squirmy.
Why can’t we hold the bigger rabbits?
Despite their reputation for being teddy bears, rabbits have lots of opinions about life and can be sassy. They also have very sharp teeth and big claws. If they feel like they are being squished too hard or if they feel like they are going to fall, they will scratch as they try to save themselves and may bite. As a result, we have found having the older rabbits in an enclosure on the ground, and having the children sit in with them, is the safest way for them all to interact with each other.
Can we feed the animals?
If it’s hungry, you can feed it! However, we can’t make them eat if they’re not hungry… At larger public events we sometimes have to give them food breaks to make sure they don’t get sore tummies. But at birthday parties this usually isn’t an issue. We usually find the guinea pigs are the hungriest animals, so we bring lots!
What happens when it’s hot?
We have gazebos with side walls to make sure we are in some shade. We bring misting fans with us to lower the temperature in our area. We also bring iced bottles for the smaller animals to lean against.
What happens when it’s rainy?
We put up our gazebos with the side walls. However, if it is very windy, gazebos aren’t safe. It’s best to have a backup plan to set up in carport or a garage.
Can we set up at a park?
Yes, we can set up at parks, if we can park close to where you want us to set up. You do have to check with the appropriate council that you are allowed to have petting zoos at your chosen park. Every park in Perth has different rules.
Can we set up indoors?
We can set up indoors. We can put down tarpaulins to protect surfaces, but we still wouldn’t set up on a fluffy carpeted area. We are often set up in communal areas at aged care facilities. We do our best to clean up as much as possible, but you will probably have to plan to do a vacuum after we leave.
